Movie Review : Dear Zindagi

Poster of Dear Zindagi

Release date : November  25, 2016

Cast : Shar Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Angad Bedi, Kunal Kapoor,Yashwasini Dayama, Ali Zafar

Director : Gauri Shinde

The exception for this Gauri Shinde’s film was due to her previous record and Shah Rukh Khan starring in a role. But while Gauri’s previous one ‘English Vinglish’ was fresh, refreshing and likable this one seems forced and hard to spend time with.

Kaira, played by Alia Bhatt, is around 20 years old, a complex character who has commitment issues plus has multiple unresolved issues with her parents. Alia plays this girl who makes mistake, takes bad decision, moody and selfish character quite effortlessly.  In fact, she is he best part of the film.

Shah Rukh on the other hand with his amazing charm and undeniable screen presence falls short to bring the authenticity to his character of Kaira’s therapist.

In the beginning of the film, we have been introduced with Kiara, being a cinematographer looking at the world through her lens, creating the beautiful images and we as an audience want to know more about her. But suddenly the film stalls when Kaira’s best friends played by Ira Dubey and Yashwasini Dayama and their respective love interests are introduced and that ambitious girl behind the camera is lost under the wait of the story.

Also the dialogues, specially the lines of wisdom said by Shah Rukh, feels like you are reading a forwarded WhatApp message.  Most of them are to straight forward, cheesy or stretched to get included in the final script.

With all these negatives, film really shines in the music department, having few good songs and the background score. The cinematography is also commendable.

With all these been said, you can give this one a try if you are SRK or Alia fan.

Rating : 2/5
